If you’ve clicked on this blog post chances are you’re feeling pretty ‘blergh’ right now and you’re looking for a sustainable and healthy way to lose weight and fast! Don’t worry we’ve all been there; including myself. This Christmas I swore that I wouldn’t go mad and stuff my face but like Christmases past that lasted for all of five minutes. You see, if you put an apple in front of me I’ll just eat one. Put a box of mince pies in front of me and you can guarantee two will be gone along with a Quality Street chaser. Christmas is the only time of year that you can sit for hours on the sofa, glass of wine in hand, surrounded by empty wrappers, gravy on your chin and no one bats an eyelid. That’s the brilliance of Christmas right?
Well now it’s January and you’re getting through those last few chocolates that no one wants but you can’t throw out and you feel fat AF. I feel your pain and the good news is you won’t feel this minging forever and there IS something you can do about it. Reading this blog post won’t instantly drop 5lbs off your body but it will shed some light on ways to help you lose weight without it feeling like torture.
This time of year I get asked if there is a tea that is good for losing weight and my usual reply is green tea. Green tea is the only tea that has been proven in studies to help with weight loss including helping you to burn an extra 75- 100 calories a day! Now that may not seem a lot to you but long term this adds up to quite a lot! This is mainly down to a flavonoid in green tea called catechin which helps speed up metabolism and combine this with the caffeine that you would find in green tea, it’s a great drink to have before a workout.
Don’t like green tea? Well you wouldn’t be the only one. The taste of green tea can be improved by adding lemon but if that’s not for you then there is plenty you could try, for example, our ‘Daydreamer’ blend which has the benefits of green tea but without the taste.
Now then, in a cup of black tea with semi skimmed milk there is around 13 calories (less if you like it builders strength or more if you like it gnats). Say you have 5 cups a day that’s 65 calories, over a week that’s 455 calories and over a month that’s 1820 calories! If you have one sugar in your tea as well then that’s 40 calories a cup, 200 calories a day, 1400 calories a week and 5600 calories a month!
If you switched to a herbal tea those numbers switch to 0 a day, 0 a week and ZERO a month. Yep, ZERO! Sounds good now doesn’t it? Not only that but herbal tea will get you out of your caffeine habit and you will start to consume goodness in the way of vitamin C, fibre, iron and many more nutrients dependent on what you drink. All from just switching your cup to tea. Simples. Not sure what to try?
